Work Car 1009 - Mower

Over the 2011-2012 winter, volunteer Mike Fox began constructing a grass mowing car. The car would have a mowing blade, much like seen on highway midian mowing machines. The base of a car were wheelsets from a donated two-foot gauge car, the frame of which was in very tough shape - the wood was rotting away. After determining it was not a historic handcar, the car was disassembled, and Mike began constructing a new frame, along with some mowing equipment.

The car contains a used Honda motor (to power the mower), and a used Cub Cadet mower blade and parts, plus a number of new parts and pieces to make it all work. The mower car was brought to the Museum in April 2012, and was used in the summer to keep the right of way within five feet of the track mowed.
